The Principal Engineer – Delivery & Reliability owns the successful execution of the technology roadmap while ensuring operational stability across platforms.
This role is accountable for ensuring engineering work moves continuously, ships predictably, and delivers measurable outcomes, driven through clear ownership, continuous execution, and strong asynchronous collaboration.
In addition, this role serves as the incident lead during production issues, ensuring service disruptions are managed decisively and resolved efficiently.
Requirements
- 5+ years of software engineering experience
- Proven experience leading delivery of complex engineering initiatives
- Experience acting as escalation lead or incident owner
- Strong technical depth across backend/platform systems
- Ability to coordinate teams under pressure
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
Bonus Points if You Have:
- Experience in media, OTT, or high-availability environments
- Exposure to DevOps / SRE practices
- Experience improving delivery metrics and engineering workflows
- Familiarity with structured incident management frameworks
Performance Objective
Performance in this role will be assessed based on the ability to:
- Roadmap initiatives ship predictably and on schedule
- Ticket aging and bottlenecks are reduced
- Major incidents are managed calmly and resolved quickly
- Repeat production issues decline over time
- Stakeholders trust delivery updates and operational leadership
- Engineering teams maintain focus even during high-pressure situations
Key Responsibilities
Roadmap Delivery & Outcome Ownership
- Drive execution of roadmap initiatives from commitment to production
- Translate strategic priorities into structured, executable engineering work
- Ensure delivery timelines are realistic, visible, and maintained
- Take ownership of delivery outcomes across squads or platforms
Delivery Flow & Sprint Leadership
- Manage active sprint scope aligned to roadmap priorities
- Prevent work overload and unmanaged ticket sprawl
- Ensure work progresses steadily across To Do → In Progress → QA → Release
- Monitor ticket aging and remove bottlenecks early
- Maintain delivery momentum throughout the sprint lifecycle
Reliability & Incident Leadership
- Act as Incident Manager / Incident Commander during major production issues
- Coordinate engineers, SRE, vendors, and stakeholders during incidents
- Drive resolution by assigning ownership and ensuring continuous progress
- Ensure clear and structured communication during outages
- Lead post-incident reviews and ensure corrective actions are implemented
Technical Leadership
- Provide senior technical judgement across delivery and reliability decisions
- Review solution designs with performance, scalability, and stability in mind
- Step in hands-on when required (code review, architecture discussion, debugging)
- Balance delivery speed with long-term platform sustainability
Stakeholder Communication
- Provide transparent updates on roadmap progress and delivery risks
- Escalate risks early with clear mitigation options
- Maintain strong asynchronous collaboration across PMO, Product, QA, and Engineering
- Ensure stakeholders have confidence in delivery and incident management
Continuous Improvement
- Improve delivery predictability and throughput
- Reduce recurring incidents through preventive improvements
- Strengthen operational readiness and escalation processes
- Optimise delivery workflows and tools (Jira, dashboards, reporting)
